SESSION I – An introduction to the Art, Architecture and Sculpture of India




  • The history of Indian Architecture and Sculpture

    • 3 Great Monuments. The history and legends connected to each.


  • The development of Indian paintings tracing the different phases.

    • Cave paintings including Ajanta.

    • Palm leaf painting

    • Jain, Buddhist, Deccani, Mughal, Rajput, Pahari, Oudh, Raj, Modern.
  • The stories told by the Indian paintings.

    • Panchatantra

    • Persian tales

    • Tales of valour, epics, romance.

SESSION II – Folk & Tribal Art


A. An Introduction to Tribal India

  • Who are the Tribals?

  • What is their place in Modern India?

B. Lab with artisans

Demonstration of art forms that are the living traditions of India.

  • Terracotta pot or sculpture.

  • Warli art ( tribal)

  • Pottery

  • Wood carving.
